Usually the Italian taught at beginners level is presented solely in a recreational context, whereas Italian for professional purposes tends to require previous study at a more intermediate level. Al lavoro! bridges this gap and is aimed at those wanting to learn Italian from scratch but specifically in the context of work.

The course consists of two volumes: level A1 and level A2. Each volume comprises 20 short units, 10 vocabulary worksheets to speed up vocabulary acquisition, 10 skills worksheets to develop communicative competence, 4 review sections plus further exercises for each unit at the back of the book.

The accompanying audio and audio transcripts can be downloaded free of charge from the coursebook's website as well as translations of all the instructions into English, French, Spanish, German, Russian, Portuguese and Chinese.
