Very exciting news: the folklorist and ethnomusicologist Alan Lomax's huge collection of original sound recordings and films of folk musicians is to be digitised and will be shortly available for streaming, according to an article in the New York Times. From the 1930s onwards Alan Lomax single-handedly recorded and championed folk music first, across the US, and then later on, around the world. Now his extensive recordings will be available for streaming at the web site Cultural Equity later this month. As well as American folk songs, the linguist will also be able to access traditional songs from the collection from countries as diverse as Spain, Haiti and the Soviet Union.
