The Olympic Games may be just about sporting prowess for most of us but for Oxford school children it will be so much more come September. Telegraph.co.uk reports that The Iris Project, a charity organisation that promotes the teaching of Classics, has signed up three schools to a one-hour lesson of the ancient language twice a month. They'll be the usual timetable teaching grammar and vocabulary on top of a trip through ancient greek culture and a timely look at the origins of the the Olympic Games. Making these connections between the present and the past is surely the best way to help children understand the importance of languages, even dead ones.
